Injury and illness can affect any person of any age. However, if you have responsibility for looking after children you might prefer to attend our course on Emergency Paediatric First Aid. Like our other 1-day courses, it includes life-saving procedures but it emphasises the small differences in CPR, choking and defibrillation which are most appropriate for children. The resulting certificate is valid for three years. The national guidelines say that this course is for anyone aged 14 or over and who is fit enough to perform CPR at ground level. Like all our courses, it’s highly interactive. We use a mixture of slides, videos and practical demonstrations, all reflecting our own hands-on experience. As far as possible it’s tailored to suit your own experience and your own environment, such as the ages of the children in your care. It includes a focus on childhood illnesses and guidance on what to include in your first aid kit – or how to choose a ready-made kit if that’s what you prefer to do. Assessment takes the form of practical observation and also a series of multiple-choice questions. They’re carefully-designed to ensure that we can demonstrate that all learning outcomes have been achieved. We’re sometimes asked whether it’s helpful to attend both the Paediatric and Adult versions of the 1-day course, but there’s a simpler option. The key principles are common to both courses, so attending one and having the second course manual to hand will help you to be well-prepared. We use only the best manuals on the market. They’re inexpensive and expertly-focused so that they are accessible for all.
